Border Food Machinery (BFM) was founded in 1980 by John Barwick after many years working as a sales manager for one of the largest catering manufacturers. BFM’s strong values and desire to provide a truly personal experience to their customers was further strengthened when the business became a family affair.

In 1981 his son Paul joined, now Managing Director, followed in 1983 by his brother Michael, who is now the company’s Sales Director. The BFM family did not stop growing there with John’s daughter Elaine joining in 1986 – now the Company Secretary/Director – followed with Elaine’s daughter Olivia coming on board in 2004.

Managing Director Paul Barwick insists their success is down to everyone within the BFM Team, employing the right people to pass on the company’s values around sound advice and personal service.

BFM are wholesalers, offering a range of products, from a single lonely teapot right through to a fully fitted industrial kitchen. Experts in refrigeration, kitchen equipment, ventilation and fabrication means that customers are able to receive a fully bespoke design for their kitchen. BFM are proud of being able to offer a “one-stop-shop” right down to the final detail.

The BFM team are fully qualified in all areas, with credentials relevant to the industry ie; Gas Safe, NICEIC electrical registered and F-Gas refrigeration registered engineers for the safe handling of refrigeration and air conditioning. It is standards such as these that ensure your equipment is completely safe and fitted to the highest of standards.

The recession made the company stand tall, during the hard times they asked businesses how they could help them, coming up with solutions on ways to enhance their business experience. One key area of focus during this time was cost. As consumers, it has never been easier to source what we need, be it a dishwasher, oven or air conditioning unit, many people will now search the internet to find the best price.

In order to offer the best deal they can for clients they went straight back to the source of their products, the manufacturer, negotiating and restructuring their pricing structure.
